The GVL is the national copyright representative of practising artists and manufacturers of sound media in Germany. This body oversees the application of third party exploitation rights on behalf of its members in connection with the broadcasting of their works.The GVL issues the so-called label code or the LC number of a CD. The right of broadcast is taken as given if a sound medium carries a label code and the broadcasters (radio and television) use these codes to compile reports for the GVL of the works performed, so that licence fees can be calculated. The owner of the label code receives a yearly account with payment of predetermined licence fees (with no breakdown according to titles or composers). The label code does not guarantee the broadcast of a recorded work and is not a requirement of its publication.Should you have any enquiries regarding label codes, please contact our licensing department.
